In this episode, Viante Executive Director, Rhiannon Samuel and Co-Chair Deena Crawley are joined by Seth Saavedra to have a conversation about what is and isn’t working in New Mexico education. Seth also provides a historical context around why New Mexico is facing its  current issues in the education of New Mexico’s children.

Seth is the founder of NMEducation.org, a site dedicated to storytelling, research, and truth telling about local education topics. He is unwavering in commitment to improving New Mexico’s public schools, particularly for students and communities who are least served by the current system. A New Mexican born and raised, Seth is fueled by his upbringing in public housing and public schools. Before becoming a middle school teacher in Bridgeport, Connecticut through Teach For America, Seth triple-majored in English, philosophy and economics at the University of New Mexico, dropping out of Del Norte High School in APS before that. After teaching, Seth was an executive with Teach For America in the Bay Area for eight years before returning home to New Mexico three years ago.
