Improving New Mexico’s Quality of Life

Quality of life can be challenging to define because individual experiences and preferences shape it. Viante explored possible metrics ranging from the environment to healthcare, to charitable giving and voter participation. In the end, we decided to focus on metrics related to our state’s economy, which we found to have significant impacts on our state’s overall well-being.

When we improve quality of life, we empower talented, passionate New Mexicans to fulfill their dreams here instead of somewhere else. We need to keep a close eye on what our lawmakers are doing that could improve or change the quality of life in our state. Help make New Mexico the best place to live, work, and play!

Viante Quality of Life Metrics:

Poverty Rate and Median Household Income

The first way we track the quality of life is by measuring New Mexico’s Poverty Rate and Median Household Income. Sadly, statistics show that many New Mexican families are not doing well – in fact, 1 in 5 New Mexicans lives in poverty. By improving the poverty rate, Viante believes it will not only help specific individuals but will strengthen our community as a whole. We also focus on Median household income to see whether families are making enough money to meet their basic needs.

Labor Force Participation Rate

Viante also looks at our state’s Labor Force Participation. This metric shows what percent of New Mexico residents age 16 and older are working. When New Mexicans can find jobs, our economy grows, and we can enjoy a better quality of life.

Cost of Living

Finally, something that many New Mexicans enjoy is our low Cost of Living. Viante wants to be sure that this positive indicator remains affordable while lawmakers look to fund and provide necessary services for our state’s residents.
